The story became a blueprint for the first actual "german opera". On 18 June 1821 "The Marksman" was premiered in Berlin and it was an success right from the start!

Hoffmann, which was artistically transformed by Alexandre Dumas (the "musketeer"), whose version was the basis for Tchaikovskys ballett. The christmas-inspired piece was premiered on 18th of December 1892 - one year before Tchaikovsky´s death.
